Using Brisk AI Chrome Extension for More Frequent Writing Feedback

Do you struggle finding the time to provide quick, personalized feedback for students to consider in the writing process?

Brisk Chrome Extension has provided me a tool that gives students quick, personalized, informal feedback to writing assignments that are shared through Google Docs.

For most writing units, students create rough drafts for writing assignments (argumentative, personal narrative, research) in Google Docs and share them with me. This allows me to provide individualized feedback throughout the writing process for them to consider. I usually add comments (feedback) weekly after reading each students shared documents completely. I check for spelling, punctuation, capitalization, sentence and paragraph structure, and other items based on the specific rubric for that unit.

As students continue to learn and apply elements of the writing process, my goal is to provide as much feedback as possible to help them become better writers. My goal is to provide constructive, formal and informal feedback through teacher and peer evaluations. We all know this involves time to read and comment on each student's writing. The typical plan for feedback and writing developments includes:

1. Week 1--Rough draft development through informal feedback with one-on-one discussions and Google Doc comments throughout the week. Formal feedback with Google Doc comments at the end of the week.

2. Week 2--Rough draft development through Informal, peer feedback with a detailed rubric. Formal feedback through Google Doc comments at the end of the week.

3. Week 3--Final draft development through informal feedback with one-on-one discussions, peer feedback, and Google Doc comments throughout the week. Final draft graded using unit rubric.

Now, with BRISK, I have found an AI tool that can provide quick, constructive, informal feedback to students more frequently than the weekly feedback I was giving because it frees me from the amount of time it takes to read and comment on each student's writing. Brisk provides feedback based on the criteria or rubric I provide. The best part is that I do NOT have to take the time to read each student's work. Students are able to get more frequent feedback--daily, if I prefer--to help them make edits and revisions without waiting for me to read through numerous writing assignments. Brisk allows students to gain more frequent feedback to help them improve their writing without waiting for the teacher. Granted, I am still reading each student's writing at the end of each week, so feedback is not solely based on the AI responding to the Google document.  Along with the one-on-one feedback, peer feedback, and one-on-one discussions, Brisk AI provides another feedback tool to help improve student writing.

Have you tried BRISK AI? If so, what are your thoughts?
